Cellulite
Cellulite is a scourge that affects a staggering 90% of women over the age of 40.
It is a watery swelling that creates dimpled effects in the skin, which you may suffer from no matter how well you eat or how much you exercise.
Sadly, there is no concrete way to prevent cellulite. Some experts say lots of hydration and strong muscles can help tone your skin. But even active people still struggle with visible cellulite. Although weight and lifestyle are contributing factors, you're primarily suffering another effect of female hormones (men don't get cellulite) and how fatty and connective tissue is distributed in the skin.
Contrary to what you may have heard, liposuction isn't an effective way to treat it. Yes, it does reshape your body, but it doesn't remove cellulite.
Even though the underlying problem is in female hormones, that doesn't mean there is nothing you can do.
Treating Cellulite
The Accent RF
The Accent is a radiofrequency device that offers a huge advance in cellulite therapy.
The harmless radio wave tightens skin, melts fat, and boosts circulation.
Some people try to treat cellulite with:
- Endermology
- Iontophoresis
- Mesotherapy
These procedures have some benefit, but they require a lot of maintenance.
How does Accent RF work?
The Accent RF device applies radio waves through the hand-piece. The device is held directly onto your skin, while the radio waves induce electrical current in the tissue.
This current goes through blood and muscle with no effect at all. However, fat and collagen resist the flow, which shrinks fat cells and tightens up collagen. At the same time, collagen production rises and blood flow is boosted.
Is Accent RF Right For Me?
You're a good candidate if you're dealing with cellulite on your legs, your arms or trunk.
Mild to moderate cellulite usually responds well to Accent RF treatments. Severe cellulite will not respond as well.
People with pacemakers can't be treated.
Are there any side effects?
The Accent is exceptionally safe, with virtually no side effects.
You may feel pain if your tissue heats up too much. This is extremely rare, as heating is gradual, and you have plenty of warning that you're getting hot.
Also, if the hand-piece loses contact with the skin while the energy is flowing, it can cause a "spark" sensation that is mildly painful.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
You may see noticeable results within one week of the first treatment, but this varies from person to person. The skin will continue to tighten for four to six months.
Accent RF requires 6 sessions, but you may want as many as 10 sessions to achieve your desired result. After that, you only need one or two sessions every year or two to maintain the look.
