Phlebectomy
Phlebectomy is a minor surgical procedure for removal of varicose veins which are very close to the surface.
In our office this procedure is most commonly done at the same time as endovenous laser. Laser treats the large deeper vein (usually not visible at the surface) and phlebectomy is done to remove bulging veins at the surface.
Phlebectomy is done under local anesthetic.
Tiny (2mm) incisions are made, and a small hook is inserted to hook the vein and pull it out. No sutures are needed, only little bandaids. The incisions will heal quickly and leave tiny scars which are hard to find.
Surgical procedures for varicose veins including phlebectomy are not usually covered by OHIP.
